Timeline of Anti-Bullying Events in
Waterford Graded Schools
- April 2012- A program was presented by Jim Jelinske of Creative Education Services©. He provided students in grades 4th-8th grade with a researched look at the factors that cause bullying, the effects of bullying, and strategies and techniques that can be used when dealing with bullying. Parents of Waterford Graded Schools also had an opportunity to listen to Jim's presentation in the evening.
May 2012- An identified group of 5th -7th grade students were trained to be “Upstanders”. The goal of the training was to provide the students with skills to help stop bullying and prevent new incidences from occurring.
September 2012- Staff was trained to identify bullying behaviors and develop strategies to effectively address bullying.
October 2012-Students reviewed with their teachers the 4 steps to bully prevention: Recognize, Stop, Walk &
Tell a Trusted Adult.
October and December 2012- In an effort to keep our schools safe, ongoing activities, which include classroom lessons taught by teachers and counselors, are taking place to continually increase awareness of bullying.
November 2012- The district implemented a Bullying Report Form to be used by students and staff to document each incident of bullying. The form included a list of consequences to follow when a student is bullying. The goal of the consequences is to deter repeated bullying and keep children safe.
December 2012- Students trained last May to be “Upstanders” met to prepare for January positive reinforcement program.
December 2012- An Anti-Bullying Website became available with anti-bullying information and links to online versions of the Bullying Report Form that can be used by students and parents at home to report bullying.
January 2013- Anti-bullying positive reinforcement program headed by the District Safety Committee will take place: "Have you Filled Your Bucket Today?" for lower elementary and "Growing Up with a Bucket Full of Happiness" for upper elementary and middle school students.
